What we're heading for is something we've never scene.... 1period of sustained stagnation.....

These are strange and new times.. this is not just a black swan, this is a platypus we're looking at...
we're not going back to any place we're familiar with...
we're going to a new normal, and I just hope its comfortable enough to live in.
~Arthur Cashin.

The recession will last a long time. “Look, we are not going back to where we came from. In that sense it’s going to last for ever.”

Many intriguing ideas... Have you come across John Robb (http://globalguerrillas.typepad.com ) and his thoughts on Resilient Communities in response to a future meltdown?

Huge, thanks just returned to your site to read this, the Empire of One connects with something I'm thinking about myself in terms of vocational skills and that's very useful confirmation, thanks again. The transparency video also confirmed some thoughts around the need to guide students to choose to follow interests/chosen mentors/networks closely whilst working/studying and of course many unthought thoughts! Thanks very much for your work. And how critical it is to incorporate futurist discussions in preparation for work/study.

I am wondering if you believe discoveries in neuroscience will begin to lay foundations for future businesses. I have notices that applications and drugs to help improve mental abilities are gaining steam. I realize you haven't written much about neuroscience (or at least a search for that term on your blog returns nothing), but I think a lot of the things you write about are heavily influenced by advances in that field. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Dueling Energy as the green movement loses steam.....maybe, an ''economic'' loss of steam and a temporary move out of green to polluting oil but as Israel and Gaza can show, everything can and will change in an instant.......Oil will go back UP to ridiculous HIGHS, Green will bloom again, and maybe even T Boone Pickens will complete his wind turbines!!! Thank God the rest of the world is going into Wind Power. From the ashes of Tennessee(literally) , we cannot pollute ourselves into thinking this price of gasoline is permanent! We will see OIL over $100 in less than two years time frame!! ObamaNomics will take some time to implement but the world will come back and we will recover despite all of our perceived fear media driven desire to have the consumer never ever buy anything forever. Economic chaos might be severe in coming weeks/months but humanity will prevail in the long run. Vestas is classic Colorado success story of the future here tomorrow!

Thomas, thank you that was an excellent summary and you had my attention from the first paragraph; "...at a pace that would make a snail yawn." Oh, that's good stuff, I could not agree more. Keep up the excellent work, we all need to be thinking here - Lance
